In 1979 Peter Maxwell Land was born in Chicago to a British father and Peruvian mother. He started playing the piano at the age of five, eventually leading him to studies carried out at the Lawrence University Conservatory in Appleton Wisconsin where he obtained a Bachelor of Music in piano performance under the tutelage of Dr. Michael Kim. After completing this course of study, he traveled east to London, UK where he studied with Yonty Solomon and Douglas Finch respectively at the Royal College of Music (RCM) and the Trinity College of Music (TCM). At the RCM he attained the degree of Post Graduate Diploma in solo/ensemble piano performance which was followed by a full Academic Scholarship for the Masters of Music degree in piano performance at the TCM. He has been an active participant of many master classes by prominent pianists in both America and Europe.

In the USA, Peter has made appearances at Chicago’s Rockefeller Chapel and Curtis Hall, as well as at Lawrence University’s Memorial Chapel, Harper Hall and on Wisconsin Public Radio WLFM and Chicago’s classical radio station WFMT. He has also been seen on Chicago television (Channel 25) in a live recital broadcast for the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Series from Preston Bradley Hall in the Chicago Cultural Center. In the UK, Peter gave his solo debut in 1998 through a charity recital for the Anglo-Peruvian Society of Europe. Proceeds from this sold out performance were used to fund the building of a new school for underprivileged children in El Huarango de Ica, Peru. Subsequently he has performed throughout the Trinity College of Music venues including two performances at the New Quays Contemporary Music Festival. Other engagements include the Concert Hall, Recital Hall, Durrington Room, and Parry Room at the Royal College of Music; Blackheath Halls, Churches of St. Olave, St James, St. Lawrence Jewry and St. Mary Abbots, the Regents Hall on Oxford Street and the Beaulieu Festival in Brighton. Peter’s playing has also been featured on the London radio station Riverside FM.

In 2003 Peter moved once again away from all that he knew and loved and continued on east to Cologne, Germany. Here he is active in several musical directions including original composition, classical, jazz and minimalist music, as well as a keyboardist for several different bands. Peter has also joined forces as piano accompanist with actress/singer Cristina Vayhinger for “Die Seerauber Jenny” so far with more than 16 performances for the 2005/6 season. As a composer Peter wrote music for the 1000 Hertz theatre production “Die Narbe”. This piece has had now had well received performances at the Orangerie and the Theater am Sachsenring, both in Cologne. Performing commitments for Peter in Cologne and surrounding areas include the Bürgerhaus Kalk, Kathe Kollwitz Gallery, Café Goldmund, Schoke Flügels & Pianos, KulturKontor, Schloss Burgau, and the Gustav Heinemann Haus. So far, Peter has concertized in the USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Holland, Austria and Portugal but is looking to expand this list as soon as possible!
